One of my GTX 970's ran iClone 2 to 3 times faster than the p6000 Quadro rig. Only problem is, it's not compatible with iClone. I believe it has 24Gb of vram and Nvidia boasted it was the most powerful graphics card when it came out.

Sorry for the confusion, it's the p6000 Quadro workstation series.
IRAY VS VRAY UPGRADE
So good luck with upgrade and I hope you'd share some of your work (if company would allow) and give us stats, when Iray for iClone is available. 6Gb of Quadro surely would not be enough to load even mid sized project in latest iClone.
IRAY VS VRAY PC
But how nice, you got some help and he's using your PC to do something else, as you're using your home rig to do company work. I mean you can, but you'd have to disable SLI before rendering with Iray. Thanks EMT, Yes, it would double the time using a single card.
IRAY VS VRAY SOFTWARE
It is by far the most unpleasant rendering/CAD software I've ever used.
IRAY VS VRAY HOW TO
Had to figure out how to use it last year for an engineering video that had to show metal deformation. OMG, I would hate the prospect of having to teach them Maya.

I would prefer to teach them how to use iClone instead of Maya or C4D since iClone is so much easier to grasp. I guess the other reason why I'm trying to avoid using the more elaborate programs such as C4D and Maya, which the company also has, is that the group I'm in will eventually expand to increase video outputs by integrating existing engineers from other areas of the company and I will be expected to train them. Anyway, they hired a graphics artist contractor to help me with the videos, but he's been reassigned to do something else and he's making good use of that workstation. Even the iRay C4D video I did was on my home rig because the company doesn't have an iRay license. Just navigating a basic scene in iClone causes really bad lag. I've been using my home rig to do all my company projects because the iClone machine they got me to use has a 6000 series quadro and it is unusable. I'm planning to upgrade my i7 5930k with 3 GTX 970's gaming rig to an AMD 2970wx system with 2 GTX1080 TI's, or a single RTX 2080 TI and get a second one when prices drop. But I imagine the 20 secs is pretty much an attribute of your 1080Ti's in SLI. It's a decent gauge of what to expect when the iray plugin is fully developed. That looks so awesome !!! Thanks for going through all the trouble to do this. Just to give you an idea of what to expect. CC3 implementation is not fully optimized and require a major revision. But when I said iClone would have different Iray specs, I meant compare to CC3.

Not sure what you are are going to add for the environment and animation, but it would certainly increase render time. Render time 20 seconds + about 10 seconds for initializing. I converted some of the materials to NVIDIA MDLs and tweaked a few in Iray materials control, leaving most of the interior alone. I have two 1080Ti GPUs 100 samples Denoiser kicks in at 95 Max Bounces 8 The car utilizes about 70 materials out of which only a few have a texture - a big plus. Export cannot handle props with complex materials arrangement for now. First I tried to Export and then used Background Render button. A car, a ground plane and background HDR image (Chuck is hidden). While I could have simply copy the car prop into the CC custom props folder and applied it to the stage avoiding car displacement while animating/tweaking an avatar. Initially I have attached the car to an avatar and sent to CC (as I used to with CC1/2). 4u2ges I keep forgetting that I am dealing with CC3 now.
